Having dry skin means I am living for any hydration I can get my little hands on. If you’re more into foundations that have a natural/dewy/satin formula then these primers are perfect. They keep your makeup intact while keeping your skin moisturized throughout the day.
Let’s start with the Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer – a creamy gel formula, filled with vitamins to keep your skin smooth and your foundation true to colour. It’s lightweight, non sticky but contains enough glycerin that your makeup will stay. This was the first hydrating primer I had tried (I have also tried the original) and can still stick to my word when I say this is my HG status. In my opinion this moisturizes my skin the same way three or four sprays of Fix+ by MAC does – which if you aren’t familiar is like dumping a glass of water on your skin (in the best way.)
Next I tried the Make Up For Ever Hydrating Primer – I will admit I did buy this assuming it would be almost identical to the Laura Mercier, also not realizing there was a “Nourishing” step as well. The formula is much the same, as it is a creamy gel. This is definitely a little more lightweight than the Laura Mercier, and the hydration is a lot less intense. I would buy this primer if your skin was somewhere in between slightly dry to combination. If you are chronically dry or oily I would however say stay away.
When I discovered the Make Up For Ever Nourishing Primer – and that fact it was marketed towards that “constantly dry” skin type, I knew I had to try it. Living in a cold/dry climate and having chronically dry skin myself, this primer is great. It’s almost as if they combined the hydration of the Laura Mercier and the same lightweight formula of the MUFE. This primer alludes to replenishes moisturize and restores elasticity in the skin now I haven’t used this one quite enough for it to prove that. But I do know my makeup doesn’t budge and by the end of the day once it’s all off my skin looks and feels better than it did that morning so maybe there is something to it.
Are there any primers you’re dying to try, or that I should try? Let me know in the comments below.
